With the announcement of the new birth control pill Liebrel, South Dakota’s Leslee Unruh went on CNN to denounce it as a form of human pesticide, and closed the segment with a bizarre chant of “I want more babies. More babies. We love babies.” In the same segment, she calls birth control a war on women and children, and a diabolical plot by big pharma (a catch phrase she uses repeatedly). She claims that Planned Parenthood and NARAL have been out there trying to control women for many years, somehow believing that control is equivalent to freeing women from having unwanted pregnancies.

She’s way way out on the fringe, and yet, her salary is paid by you, the taxpayer. She’s president of the National Abstinence Clearinghouse, which receives funding from the federal government. The NAC is a leading supplier of sexual misinformation, spewing out lies and distortions about oxytocin, birth control dangers, and anything else that might terrify you about sex. It is anti-science, anti-choice, anti-contraception, and basically anti-sex- unless you get babies, more babies.

She’s a busy girl. She has no legislative experience, yet she wrote the first draft of South Dakota’s notorious abortion ban, the most restrictive ban on abortion in the nation. Her comment about it: “I’m giving women freedom”

She organizes the creepy purity balls, where daddies go to dance with their daughters and they make disturbing anti-sex pledges to each other. Girls as young as 4 pledge their sex lives to the control of their daddies, promising him purity (or in South Dakota at least, first dibs).

She claims that abortions make women crazy, and since she had one, she may have a point in her case. But I suspect she comes by crazy naturally.
Her Alpha Center plead no contest to persuading teenagers to illegally sell their babies, she’s violated federal law by illegally lobbying, and she’s just bat shit crazy. A reckless disregard for the law, science and basic facts. Hard to understand why the Bush administration keeps throwing money at her. Oh, wait…
